Stormont in Race for State House Seat
Grass Lake Township supervisor Jim Stormont announced on Monday, March 24, 2014 that he is in the race for state representative, 65th district. The seat is currently held by conservative Mike Shirkey, who recently tossed his hat in the ring for state senator.
Stormont had been called by Republican party affiliates to consider the postion early this month, when Shirkey was leaning in for a senate run. “There was a lot to consider,” said Stormont on Monday after his announcment.
After discussions with his family in the weeks that followed, he agreed to a sit down with party organizers and committed to the race.
Having served on the township planning commission before being elected supervisor in 2004 and re-elected two more times, Stormont is well known in the Grass Lake area, located in the north eastern tip of the 65th district.
“I’ll be visiting other townships and communities right up to the primary election August 5 then on through the November 4 general election” Stormont predicted.
Jim Stormont and his wife, Paula have two grown children and two grandchildren. They have lived in Grass Lake most of their lives.
