Grass Lake Sophomore Samantha Cushard spent July 14-18 wrestling against future Olympians at the USA Wrestling National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota.

The week long event included several tournaments for all the boy and girl high school age divisions.  These are the official development tournaments that lead directly to the USA Olympic program.

A highlight of Samantha’s week was pinning a girl who just graduated from high school and has a full scholarship to wrestle for the defending national champion college team. Following are Samantha’s individual and team results:

Cadet Women’s National Championships (15-16 yrs old) – National Runner-Up (Second Place) and All-American Status at 154 lbs.

Junior Women’s National Championships (18 and under) – 4th Place Finish and All-American Status at 159 lbs.

Junior Women’s National Duals Meet (18 and under, state vs state format) – Team Michigan placed 7th and was awarded a team trophy and each girl received a medal

Samantha wrestled all the matches at 159 lbs for the team.
