Grass Lake Weed Harvest Interrupted

Sheriff Dan Heyns reports that on September 28, 2010, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Deputies were dispatched to List Road north of Cedar Knoll Road, Grass Lake Township, for a suspicious vehicle, parked in a corn field.  Deputies Andrew Tisch and Josh Lewis immediately began checking the area suspecting the subjects may be cultivating marijuana plants. Two subjects were located and two large bundles of marijuana were found a short distance from the suspects.  The two admitted to harvesting the marijuana from the field and having a handgun for protection.

A search of the area revealed several more six foot tall plants and a handgun which had been hidden by the suspects. Officer Bill Mills, a Jackson City Police K9 Unit located the handgun which had been buried in the field.  The two suspects ages 32 and 31 year are from the Livonia area.  Both were lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana.  JNET a local area narcotics concept team has taken over the investigation.  JNET is comprised of officers from the Michigan State Police, Jackson City Police Department and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff.
